South Kingstown is a town in, and the county chair of, Washington County, Rhode Island, United States. The population was 31,931 at the 2020 census. South Kingstown is the second largest town in Rhode Island by total geographic area, behind New Shoreham, and the third largest town in Rhode Island by geographic house area, behind Exeter and Coventry.

The Narragansett Indians were known to occupy a winter camp in the Great Swamp, within present day South Kingstown.

In March of 1638, Rhode Island founder Roger Williams signed an consent with two Sachems of the Narragansett Tribe, Canonicus and Miantonomoh, establishing the boundaries in the midst of the Narragansett Tribe and the Colony of Rhode Island, as well as to purchase Aquidneck Island.
