ADT Security In Minnesota – Crime Rates

Minnesota’s crime rates are lower than the national average. There are fewer violent crimes than most other states, but there are also a lot of property crimes. Property crime includes burglary, larceny, and arson. In fact, it accounts for over 90 percent of all index crimes in the state. The rate of larceny is at its lowest level since 1973, and the motor vehicle theft rate is at its lowest level since 1964.

Crime rates vary in each part of the state. Southeast, west, and southwest parts of Minnesota have a lower crime rate than other areas. Interestingly, Minnesota’s cities are largely safe, while rural areas are more dangerous. Those areas are usually situated in the north, south, and east of the state. This has been attributed to social disorganization theories, which explain how crime can spread in a population.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s 2008 Uniform Crime Reports, Minnesota’s violent crime rate is the thirteenth lowest in the nation. And the robbery and aggravated assault rates are both down. However, the homicide and murder rates are up. It was a record year for murders in Minnesota. During the past decade, the share of murders that were committed with a gun has risen 27 percent.

The robbery rate in Minnesota is down 13.9% from 2007, while the robbery-theft rate is down 3.3 percent. The robbery-theft rate is one of the few categories that have decreased in the last five years in Minnesota.

Despite all of the crime, many people still feel safe in Minnesota. In fact, Minnesota’s overall safety rating is a 71st percentile, compared to the nation’s 79th. When it comes to gun violence, 38% of residents worry that they or someone in their family may be the victim of a shooting. Another ten percent have been the victims of a rape, and another ten percent have been the victim of a sexual assault.

The index crime rate in Minnesota is 3,113.4 incidents per 100,000 residents, which is lower than the national average. While the state’s rate is below the national rate, it’s still higher than the Twin Cities metro area’s rate. The robbery-theft and violent crime rates are up, but the property crime rate has dropped.

Most of the crimes that occur in Minnesota are property crimes, including burglary, larceny, arson, and motor vehicle theft. Overall, the property crime rate is down, though it’s not as low as it was under Pawlenty. A decrease of 6.1 percent in the property crime rate is the driving force behind the almost 40-year-low.

Crime rates in Minnesota are lower than they were in 1986, but the state’s economy was in a decline when the report was written. Unemployment reached 5.5 percent in 2008. Despite these trends, Minnesota’s unemployment rate is still lower than the national average.

Some analysts predict an increase in the crime rate. However, most of the nation is seeing a drop in the crime rate. Regardless, there are some factors that should be addressed, such as the fact that Minnesota’s economy is struggling.
