Connecticut Crime
Statistics. In 2010 there were 78,386 property crimes, 10,057 violent crimes, 130 murders, and 583 rapes reported in Connecticut. … The violent crime rate in the state was 227 per 100,000 residents, compared to the U.S. rate of 397 per 100,000 nationwide. Connecticut released its most recent Uniform Crime Report in 2016. Connecticut is a U.S. state in southern New England that has a mix of coastal cities and rural areas dotted with small towns. Mystic is famed for its Seaport museum filled with centuries-old ships, and the beluga whale exhibits at Mystic Aquarium. On Long Island Sound, the city of New Haven is known as the home of Yale University and its acclaimed Peabody Museum of Natural History.

ADT Security In Connecticut & Crime Rates

Crime rates in Connecticut have declined substantially in the last few years. While the state’s murder rate has increased, the overall crime rate has been lowered. The state has the fourth lowest violent crime rate in the U.S., according to the FBI Uniform Crime Report.

Violent crimes include rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. Black males account for more than half of the murders in the state, and are also among the largest perpetrators of rapes. Compared to whites, blacks are four to five times more likely to be arrested for aggravated assault and rapes.

A large portion of the decrease in crime in Connecticut has come from property crimes. During the reporting year, burglary rates decreased by 5% to a new all-time low, and motor vehicle thefts decreased by nearly 896. In comparison to the national average, crime in Connecticut is down 41 percent.

Property crimes include motor vehicle theft, arson, larceny, and burglary. As a result, the number of reported crimes decreased from 56,140 offenses in 2020 to 54,964 in 2021. This is the third straight year that Connecticut’s property crime rates have been lower than the national rate.

The FBI Uniform Crime Report provides an overview of crime trends nationwide. According to this report, the overall crime rate in Connecticut is down 30% in the past decade. However, violent crimes were still up, with a homicide rate that was higher than the nationwide average. Murder cases jumped 2.76% from the previous year. Rapes increased by 23 percent.

While there is a decrease in overall crime in Connecticut, it is not clear why that is. Some researchers have suggested that the drop in violence could be a result of criminal justice reforms, while others believe it is related to the easing of the pandemic that affected the nation in recent years.

Meanwhile, Governor Dannel Malloy touted the fact that the overall crime rate in Connecticut was the lowest it has been in more than 40 years. In a statement, the governor said, “Our commitment to the safety of the people of our state remains strong, as the numbers demonstrate.”

The most recent FBI data suggests that Connecticut is in the process of improving its safety standards. In its most recent report, the state’s overall crime rate was down 3 percent compared to the same time period in 2012. Its violent crime rate was down 9 percent. Overall, crime has fallen steadily since 1991, and is now down 58%.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation releases its Uniform Crime Report in January, before the release of statistics by state. The report is updated every year and contains information from the 2000 to 2004 period. For example, aggravated assaults are down to 279.7 from 399.9. Among other violent crimes, rapes and carjackings were down in Connecticut.

There is no reason to expect any more dramatic drops in crime in the coming years. Despite the overall drop, crime rates in Connecticut continue to vary significantly between counties. The murder rate in Connecticut is still below the national average, but has increased from a rate of 2.8 per 100,000 residents in the last year to 4.13 in 2020.
